25 million years ago, mud volcanoes appeared in the current Republic of Azerbaijan. More than 300 of the 700 mud volcanoes in the Republic of Azerbaijan are still active.
The original mud volcano is related to oil and gas fields. Mud volcanoes have been found to be rich in condensate and reservoirs. In addition, mud and liquids ejected from mud volcanoes are used as raw materials for chemistry, construction, and pharmacology.
